Frequently asked questions
What does a planet in a sign mean?
A planet shows what part of life is at play (Venus is love and values, Mars is drive, the Moon is emotion) and the sign it sits in shows the style it acts in. So Venus in Aries loves boldly and fast, while Venus in Taurus loves slowly and steadily. The planet is the verb; the sign is the adverb.
What is the difference between personal and outer planets?
The personal planets (the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars) move quickly and describe you as an individual. Jupiter and Saturn are social planets that shape your outlook and structure. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto move so slowly that whole generations share the same sign, so they read more as generational themes than personal traits.
How do I find out which signs my planets are in?
You need your birth date, and ideally your birth time and place, then a chart calculator places every planet for that exact moment. The slower planets only shift signs every few years, but the Moon changes sign every couple of days, so its placement is the one that really needs an accurate birth time.
What is a planet's rulership?
Each sign has a planet that naturally rules it, Mars rules Aries, Venus rules Taurus and Libra, the Moon rules Cancer, and so on. A planet sitting in the sign it rules tends to express itself comfortably and strongly, because it is operating on home ground.
How is a planet in a sign different from a planet in a house?
The sign a planet occupies shows how it behaves; the house shows where in your life it plays out. Venus in Libra describes a harmonious style of loving, while Venus in the 7th house points that loving energy at committed partnership. Reading both together gives the full picture.
