Rising Sign Calculator

Your rising sign — the ascendant — is the zodiac sign climbing the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. It shapes your first impression, your instincts, and how the world reads you.

What is a rising sign?

While your sun sign is your core identity and your moon sign is your inner emotional world, your rising sign is the doorway between you and everyone else. It’s the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the exact minute and place you were born — which is why it needs your birth time to calculate, and why it shifts every couple of hours.

It governs first impressions, your physical presence, your reflexes in a new room. Two people born on the same day can come across completely differently — that difference is usually the ascendant. Learn the astronomy behind the ascendant →

Why your birth time matters

Do I really need my exact time?

For the rising sign, yes. The ascendant moves through all twelve signs every twenty-four hours — roughly one new sign every two hours. Even a thirty-minute error near a sign boundary can land you on the wrong rising sign. Sun and Moon are far more forgiving.

What if I don’t know my birth time?

You can estimate from noon to get a rough idea, but treat it as a starting point, not a verdict. Birth certificates, hospital records, and baby books are the most reliable sources — it’s worth tracking down.

Why do you ask for my city?

The ascendant depends on where on Earth you were, not just the clock. We use your birth city to resolve the correct timezone and the geographic coordinates, then compute the exact sign on the horizon overhead at your moment of birth.
